Where are the hunts located?Our hunts are based in Central Otago, one of New Zealand’s most iconic hunting regions. Depending on the animals you’re after, or under request, other locations around the South Island can be arranged.

Can I bring my kids?Yes. Families are welcome! Kids aged 0–5 join free, and older children can be included in the trip. We make sure the experience is safe, guided, and enjoyable for all ages.

Do I need my own gear?No. All essential hunting gear, including rifles, optics, and safety equipment, can be provided. You’re also welcome to bring your own gear if you prefer. You do need to bring adequate clothing for all weather conditions and closed-in shoes, preferably hiking boots with good ankle support.

How do we get to the hunting area?Transport is included. We use 4x4 vehicles and buggies to access the hunting grounds. Pick-ups can also be arranged on request.

What animals can I hunt?We offer free-range hunting for a wide range of game including Red Stag, Deer, Fallow Buck, Chamois, Tahr, Goats, Pigs, and small game such as wallabies, rabbits, hares, and possums.

What types of guns and ammunition will be used?We primarily use a range of rifles suited for different hunting needs, including: .300 WSM .270 WSM .243 .223 17 HMR .22 Magnum

Do I need hunting experience?Not at all. Our guided trips are designed for everyone, from first-time hunters to seasoned outdoorsmen. Your guide will ensure the experience is safe, approachable, and tailored to your skill level.

How do I book a hunting trip?Contact on whatsapp +64 22 107 3498 or email tim@southislandhunting.co.nz or simply fill out our booking form with your details, preferred animals, trip type, and dates. We’ll get back to you with availability and next steps.

Is hunting safe?Yes. Safety is our top priority on every trip. From the moment you arrive, your guide will walk you through all equipment, safe shooting practices, and the plan for the day. Whether you’re a beginner or experienced hunter, you’ll always be in safe hands.

Is this ethical hunting?Absolutely. All our trips are free-range hunts with a strong focus on respect for the land and wildlife. We don’t hunt behind fences, and we make sure every hunt is carried out responsibly and sustainably with as much meat harvested as possible.
